Back on September 11, 2001, a 5th grader remembers everything that happened that day. Her dad responded with so many of his FDNY members. He survived the attacks but died from a 9/11-related illness in 2016. Now, she is documenting advocates of the Zadroga Act to expand health care for first responders with a project titled "Dust."

As 1/5 grader in Marine Park, Brooklyn Bridget Gormley's school Day on September 11th. 2001 was surreal. Kids kept getting pulled out of school, pulled out of school, pulled out of school all day. The population was very blue collar cops, firemen, sanitation. So all these kids' parents likely here, Bridget's dad, Billy out of Ladder Company. 174 had responded with so many of his FDNY brothers and sisters to the 9 11 attacks. My mother picked me up and she said, I I asked her what's happening, what's going on? She told me and she's like daddy's ok. So it was, this happened. He's ok. A relieved little girl. But as she went home from school, a realization something was not ok. Papers flying all over the sky and we were grabbing them out of the sky and putting them in bags. Four years later, a warning sign 2005 I think is when we start seeing people get really sick. And a decade after that, the aftershock in 2016 December, he was diagnosed with bladder cancer and then he passed away the following June Bridget and her three brothers and their mom devastated and she realized I didn't know as the daughter of a first responder who her parent got sick and died. Nobody knows. Bridget Gormly began traveling with John Field and advocates of the Zadroga Act to expand health care for first responders. Jon Stewart credited with convincing Congress they did their jobs 18 years later, do yours. Bridget recording all of it for a documentary film called Dust. Thousands of people have become ill or died from causes related to the attacks. Her takeaway from the project, the experts should have known better. It doesn't really take rocket science to know how bad it was. I mean, when you hear the composition of what was in that dust, benzene lead chromium jet fuel pulverized concrete, it was all these things alone are carcinogens and then you mix them together and you cook them for three months. It can't be good educating others. Now, her life's mission as the 22nd anniversary approaches the new calculus. The impact of that day may reverberate for generations. A resident that lives over here in Battery Park City who was a newborn and was exposed. They have to have their life covered to make sure that they don't ever have to bear the burden of financial medical expenses. And two decades after that unforgettable day of school, Bridget thinks about it this way from the memorial glade, the grassy corner of the trade center site dedicated to those like her dad lost after 9 11. I mean, if you look behind me, the glade is very subtle and there's no names on it. If you were to put names on this, this entire square would be filled with people.

I'm meteorologist, Amy Wilm in the WRL severe weather center. Pretty nice weather today. A mix of sun and clouds with temperatures close to normal for this time of year. We reach 80 degrees in Raleigh and Durham, 79 in Rocky Mount. 81 for the high temperature in Fayetteville. If you want to have dinner outside this evening, it's going to be a lovely evening to do that at 7 p.m. We're in the mid seventies, mostly sunny skies, low seventies at 8 p.m. and then we're back down to the sixties by nine o'clock and certainly no rain in the forecast for today. For the next three days. The weather stays pretty quiet and the big story will be the warming of our temperatures 80 today, 84 Tuesday and then 88 for the high temperature on Wednesday. Once we get to the holiday weekend, that's when things turn unsettled and temperatures will drop a little bit. We have scattered storms in the forecast for Friday, especially Friday night. Saturday, scattered storms possible at any point in time, just a few spotty showers and storms Sunday and then we're back to some scattered storm chances on Monday, no day looks like a washout as of now. So keep checking back in and we'll have a better idea on the exact timing and amounts once we get to around Thursday or so, here's a look at Futurecast. This is for Thursday morning. It's a dry start to the day. But then Thursday night we have some scattered showers. So most of Thursday is dry. It's not until very late. We could see a few showers. Friday morning looks dry. Maybe you're hitting the road early on Friday for the long holiday weekend, it looks dry for most of the state. And then once we get to Friday evening, it's the western half of the state that has some storms for us. It'll be Friday night, an overnight Friday in early Saturday, we'll have a good opportunity for some rain and storms. Saturday morning, rain chances for us fairly slim and really across most of North Carolina rain, chances look pretty low Saturday morning. But then we get into the afternoon and evening, the peak heating and we'll have some scattered showers and thunderstorms. Sunday morning. We could have some rain along the North Carolina coast and then just some hit showers and storms across a good part of the state. But a lot of dry time as well. Monday for Memorial Day, we'll have some hit and miss showers and storms as well. So it's very quiet for the next few days with temperatures warming up. We're in the low nineties by Thursday and then temperatures back off a little bit over the weekend. But again, that does come with the potential for some scattered showers and storms.
